Best Practices for Exporting an AR-Ready Model from Revit

Exporting a 3D model for Augmented Reality (AR) requires optimizing the model for performance, ensuring compatibility with AR platforms, and using the correct export settings. This guide will help you prepare an optimized .GLB model using Revit.

  1. Export 3d model from Revit as .FBX using default settings
  2. Open 3ds Max and import .FBX to 3ds Max using default setting
  3. With scene imported, clear unneeded geometry. Review Preparing your model for AR for additionally tips about model preparation
  4. Click “Rendering” from top menu bar, > “Scene Converter” > under Materials choose “Autodesk Material to Physical Material” > click “Convert Scene”
  5. Click “File” under top menu bar > “Export > “Export Selected” > choose .FBX
  6. Use default export setting and make sure “Embed Media” is selected
